A HUGE, tremendous THANK YOU to Photoguy for devoting the past several days of his time and dedicated brawn to fencing in our backyard!
Our backyard was mostly fenced, and this worked fine for our first two children who understood boundaries and tended not to slip out the backdoor unnoticed and then run directly to the front yard and into the street. AiAi convinced us that the time had come to put better locks on the doors and fence in the two small escape routes where the backyard meets the house.
Photoguy worked really hard, digging post holes, even busting through cement, pouring concrete, and smashing his fingers repeatedly as he wrestled with the fencing. I am convinced that he can do anything.
As for AiAi, he first walked casually through the new gate over and over, until we locked it shut. He then found a way to push our neighbor's flimsy fence aside to increase a one inch gap to just wide enough to squeeze through. Some wires solved that problem. Finally, before the day was through, he was already climbing to the top of the fence! He has yet to go all the way over. At least maybe it will slow him down?

John's mom tells me horror stories of him climbing an 8 foot cinderblock retaining wall in their backyard and wandering all over town at 3 years old. He also once rode his big wheel to the institute building (crossing a busy highway) to see his dad. Ah, children.
